The Power Language of Someone Ready to Lead

As I tell my clients, before you ever sit in front of an oral board, you need to adapt a mindset that demonstrates your readiness to lead and take on your new role.

I WILL demonstrates a readiness to lead right now.

I WOULD is conditional language, suggesting that something else must happen before you’ll be ready.

As a former Captain, I preferred being around people who were ready to take on a challenge, regardless of their rank.

This comes from The Promotional Mindset section of my book, “The Strategic Promotional Guide for Law Enforcement.” If this resonates, there is a lot more inside.

This piece first ran in The Edge, my newsletter for law enforcement professionals. Subscribers get it first.

It goes out every two weeks and covers promotion strategy, career performance, and leadership. New subscribers also receive The Oral Board Edge, my guide to winning your next promotional oral board.
